Light face moisturizer with fruit extracts

I have to admit I am always quite tempted to buy Lush cosmetic products when I read about all the fruit juices, fruit extracts, etc. are present in their products. I'm tempted to buy them until I see the price and start thing about how they must add preservatives to keep their products from spoiling so why lie about it...no one likes to be lied too. I don't mind having preservatives in certain cosmetic products, sometimes I know it is a necessary evil, but I'd like to be told what I am really paying for.

Anyway for a long time I have been fascinated with the idea of making my own face moisturizer which has fruit extracts in it. It took me a while to find and order the ones I really wanted, then there where a few try and errors and finally a moisturizer I am happy with and have been using for several weeks now.
As this is a rather light moisturizer it is recommend for oily skin type or as a light day cream.

Light face moisturizer with fruit extracts

Ingredients:

1 1/2 tbsp Olivem 1000 (emulsifier and thickener)
1 tbsp jojoba oil
1/2 tbsp evening primrose oil
1/2 tbsp rosehip oil
1 1/2 tbsp aloe vera gel (not juice!)
1 1/2 tbsp distilled water
8 drops vit E oil
6 drops strawberry fruit extract
6 drops apple fruit extract
1/4 tsp bromelain powder (pineapple extract)
1/4 tsp powdered papaya extract

Preparation:

In a jar or bowl mix the olivem 1000 and oils and heat up in a pan filled with water until the emulsifier has completely melted. Mix everything well. In a second jar or bowl mix the aloe vera gel, water and rose water and heat up to the same temperature as the oil mixture. Next slowly add the water mixture to the oil mixture and mix vigorously by hand or using a blender. When the texture is right and the cream has cooled down to room temperature add the vit. E oil and fruit extracts. Mix everything well. You can add essential oils to your cream if you'd like. Personally I don't find the scent of pineapple powder very pleasant so many this is a nice idea. I did not add any to mine though. Place your cream into jars or other containers of your choice and store in a dark and cool place. Even though this moisturizer does not have any preservatives it should be good to use for several of weeks. Mine has so far lasted 4 weeks and at the moment no discoloration, growing mold or change of scent is noticeable.

  2. Does your aloe gel have a preservative in it? I have yet to find one that doesn't. Be careful with extracts too. I have bought a few that have preservatives in them. Which I dont mind but that might be why this cream holds up for so long?

    1. Thank you for your comment.
Yes, my aloe vera does contain preservatives and indeed this is exactly why the cream has a long shelf life. As I do not add any preservatives myself if it wasn't for the preservatives included in aloe vera/the extracts it would start moulding after about 4-5 days (I have tested this).

Personally I would't want to use an aloe vera without preservatives. How can you prevent it from going bad. But if you would like to use it fresh I advise growing your own aloe vera plants - they are very easy to maintain.
