If you are into natural cosmetics as I am you already know all the awesome benefits of shea butter - its moisturising, skin soothing, its rich in vitamins E and A and it even offers UV protection.
Its no wonder it is so often used in cosmetics such as creams, lotions, lip balms or hair products. Shea butter is awesome. Period.
A large majority of the lip balms I have created in my life have contained (often in a large part) shea butter. So last week when I ran out of my usual lip balm one of the first ingredients I lined up on my kitchen counter was a container of shea butter. Maybe I was just plain lazy that evening, or maybe I was tired after a day of work. I do not know. But I had this idea that why not just use the nice smelling shea butter as a lip balm alone? Why do I always add oils and then beeswax to it and a bunch of other ingredients as honey for example, when just by itself, in its pure form, shea butter is so great for my lips?
I was so lazy I didn't even melt it, I just packed it with a spoon into a small metal tin container. That's it. So simple. Easiest lip product ever. Its hard to say I "made" anything really.
I have been using pure shea butter instead of a regular lip balm for several days now and it is absolutely wonderful. It spreads great, has a lovely natural smell and flavour, keeps my lips moisturised for a long time without making them feel too greasy and is just so easy to prepare. Why bother preparing anything more fancy when pure shea butter works so great, right?!
