I have been meaning to write this post for the last few days, but life has been pretty busy with lots of assignments at work and many goodbye dinners and parties for a very good friend of mine who has sadly left Belgium this morning. Speaking of dinners and parties, I usually wear some make-up going out and when I wear make-up I usually want a quick and easy way to remove it afterwards. Make-up removing wipes used to be my favorite way to do this at the end of the day. Now as I try to make all (or almost all) cosmetic products myself I have also decided to try to make my own make-up removing pads.
After some research online and a few experiments I'd like to share my recipe for home-made make-up removing pads.
What you will need:
cotton pads
1 cup distilled water
1 tbsp aloe vera gel
1.5 tbsp coconut oil
1 tbsp rose water
6 drops tea tree oil
4 drops grapefruit seed extract
To prepare your own make-up removing pads in a small bowl warm up the distilled water to about 40 degrees in the microwave. Add coconut oil and mix well. Next add aloe vera gel and rose water. At the end add the tea tree oil and grapefruit seed oil and make sure all of the ingredients are mixed well. In a container of your choice (jar, ziplock plastic container or any other container with a tight lid) place cotton pads and pour part of the make-up removing mixture. Add more cotton pads and pour additional make-up remover mixture. Repeat this until you have a container full of well soaked cotton pads. Store your make-up removing pads in a cool and dark place.
***The rose water in this recipe is optional as I added it mostly for scent, though it is known to be soothing for the skin. Tea tree oil and grapefruit seed extract are added mostly to prevent my make-up removing pads from mold (you wouldn't want to use something on your face which has just started to grow mold on it's surface, but you haven't noticed yet, would you??). If you would like you can just use 10 drops of either tea tree oil or grapefruit seed extract, personally I like a mixture of both. Tea tree oil leaves a very refreshing feeling afterwards, it is also known to help fight acne and minor break outs.
