Grapeseed oil is extracted from the seeds of grapes. Very often the seeds of grapes used for wine making are used to produce this oil. Thanks to this efficient use of a wine producing byproduct the price of grapeseed oil is fairly low. Grapeseed oil is used both in food and cosmetic industry. It is odorless and has a light consistency quite similar to that of jojoba oil. It is used in the cosmetic industry in creams, lotions, sunblocks, lip balms, massage oils, and some hair care products. Personally I have found grapeseed oil very convenient when making light creams or face cleansing lotions of my own. It has a very light consistency, which does not clog pores. Additionally it is easily and quickly absorbed by the skin. Its only downside is that it has a relatively short lifetime (about 6 months). Grapeseed oil is a good moisturizer, which unlike other oils does not leave a oily coating on the skin. It is additionally known to help reduce acne. Due to the high amount of antioxidants it has the ability to prevent pores from clogging. The oil also possess anti inflammatory properties, which help prevent and reduce skin break outs. The high amount of antioxidants also makes it a great oil for mature skin for reducing signs of aging. Grapeseed oil is also well known for its skin tightening properties. It is used in hair care products because it is known to strengthen hair and promote its growth.
