This recipe it one of my all time favorites, which I have been making and using non-stop for many months now. It is a thick all natural body butter, which makes my dry skin so very soft and smells just absolutely great. The only down side of this body butter is that it takes a while to absorb into the skin so you should keep this in mind and first give it some time to sink in before putting on your clothes or pajamas. Besides this one downside it is absolutely great and you should definitely try to make it yourself.
I called it chocolate mousse body butter because of it's texture, how fluffy it is even though it is a heavy cream, and because yesterday a Belgian friend of mine was describing a chocolate mousse recipe he makes and it just made me think of this body butter so much that I decided to call it Chocolate mousse body butter.
1/4 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup cocoa butter
1/4 cup shea butter
1/8 cup jojoba oil
1/8 cup macademia nut oil
20 drops vitamin E oil
10-15 drops orange or vanilla essential oil (or a mixture of both)
1 tbsp pure cocoa powder
Preparation:
Place the butters and oils in a large glass jar or pot and melt everything in a water bath. Add the cocoa powder and mix well. Place the jar in the refrigerator and leave to completely cool down until the mixture slowly starts to solidify. Once it starts to solidify take out of fridge and whip with a electrical mixer until it become fluffy. Towards the end add the essential oil (you can also skip adding the essential oils because the butter itself has a great chocolate scent from the cocoa butter and cocoa powder) and vitamin E oil.
Once you make this butter I assure you you will fall in love with it. It smells and looks so great that you will be tempted to eat it! But don't do that of course! Leave it for your skin to enjoy :)
This butter looks yummy!! :) I will definitely try it, thanks a lot! Evik
ReplyDeleteThanks Evik! I hope you will like it as much as I do :)
DeleteSoooo, I did a variant of this yesterday evening. I wanted to make it easily absorbed by skin, so I added a non-pure ingredient isopropyl myristate and therefore changed a bit the proportions (less butters to be able to add IPM, but then some beeswax to make it harder) and it is just ... YUMMY! Thanks a lot, I really enjoy your blog!
DeleteThanks Evik for sharing this idea how to modify the body butter. It sounds interesting. In the past I have also tried adding glycerin to it and that made it more easily absorbed by skin and it worked pretty well.
