Benefits of beeswax

Beeswax is a solid, golden-yellow wax with a very pleasant light honey-like scent. Beeswax is a byproduct secreted from the wax glands on a worker bees abdomen. Flakes of secreted wax are needed for building the comb, which is necessary for rearing baby bees, as well as storing honey. Raw beeswax is scented by honey and colored by pollen. Due to this the color of raw beeswax may vary from white to a brownish color depending on what flowers the bees are pollinating.

Beeswax is a tough wax formed from a mixture of several components, with a melting point between 62-64C. If beeswax is heated above 85C discoloration occurs. One of the most known uses of beeswax is to make candles, but it is often added as a thickener to beauty products such as lip balms, cleansing creams, cold creams, lotions, salves, and hair conditioners. Beeswax does not cause skin irritations and does not clog pores. It is naturally nourishing as well as antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory. It locks in moisture, fosters skin cells and protects skin from damaging environmental factors. Beeswax also softens skin and creates a long-lasting protective coating. It is especially beneficial for very dry areas of the skin.
