As you read my blog posts you might sometimes wonder where I get many of my ingredients for DIY cosmetics. The answer is that usually online, with Amazon.com being my favorite place to search. Some ingredients are harder to find then others, and require a bit more effort. I've decided it might be useful to create a list of places where you can search for cosmetic ingredients.
1) Local pharmacy (drug store)
You might be surprised how many treasures you can find in a pharmacy. It is my favorite place to shop for vitamin E, evening primrose oil, borage seed oil, grapefruit seed extract, and even some essential oils. In many pharmacies they are willing to order things that you might be looking for. Also try online pharmacies, they usually have good prices.
2) DIY crafts making stores
If you have one of these in your area be sure to check it out. They might not have all the ingredients for DIY products, but you might certainly come across very useful and fun accessories such as molds for soap making.
3) Health food stores
This is a great place to look, and they usually have them even in smaller cities. A health food store is a great place to buy oils and butters for your cosmetics. This is also a great place to buy organic honey.
4) Amazon and Ebay
There are many things that can be found on both Amazon and Ebay starting from ingredients to containers for your DIY products. When I first started my journey with homemade cosmetics Amazon was my source of almost everything. With time I found smaller online stores and usually stick to those now, but for starters I think this is the best place to begin.
5) Online stores
This is a list of online stores that I have across searching for various products. As you might guess I didn't try them all out, mostly because they are not located near me and the shipping costs would be too expensive. I usually buy my products from online stores in the UK, the Netherlands, and Poland as these locations suit me best. Online stores often have many useful tips and recipes for DIY cosmetics so you might enjoy browsing through some of these stores even if they are far away from where you live (not all of them are in English unfortunately, but that's why we have google translater!).
Europe
UK
Germany
The Netherlands
Poland
Spain
USA and Canada
Please let me know if you know any other online stores worth recommending (especially from parts of the world I did not mention here) so I can add them to this list.
