Herbal hair rinse

Ever since I decided to stop using store bought shampoo and hair conditioners I couldn't seem to get my hair to feel right and most of all to stop tangling. As my hair is long and thick this was a pretty big issue. After some experimenting with herbs I came up with a herbal rinse which left my hair soft and tangle free. I based this hair rinse on flax seed, marshmallow root, burdock root and hibiscus flower as all of these herbs are rich in mucilage, and therefor form a gelatinous liquid when water is added. Additionally I added horsetail (as it contains silica and strengthens hair), rosemary (makes hair soft and shiny), and lavender (makes hair soft and smells divine).

Ingredients:

3 tbsp flax seeds
1 tbsp marshmallow root
1/2 tbsp burdock root
1/2 tbsp hibiscus flower (this also gives your hair rinse a nice red color!)
1/2 tbsp horsetail
1/2 tbsp lavender
1/4 tbsp rosemary

Place the herbs in a pan and add 2 cups of water. On low heat slowly bring the mixture to boil, afterwards let steep for at least 30 minutes. Next discard the herbs and pour the herbal rinse into a spray bottle of any other container of your choice. Use after every hair wash, with or without rinsing out (best try out what work best for your hair). You can add essential oils of your choice to this hair rinse, but personally I like the slight herbal scent of lavender and hibiscus.

Recently I came across a hair rinse based on apple cider vinegar, marshmallow root, and horsetail for detangling hair. To see this recipe please check out:
I was very excited to try out this new herbal based hair rinse and I have been very happy with it since it left my hair shinny and tangle free. You might not want to use it too often though if apple cider vinegar tends to dry out your hair. Besides that it works absolutely great and I have placed a spray bottle of this apple cider vinegar rinse under the shower in my bathroom (right next to a bottle of my own herbal hair rinse).
