You have most likely heard of witch hazel before, or at least seen it on the ingredient list of some of your skin care products. Witch hazel hydrosol is made from the bark and leaves of the witch-hazel shrub, a flowering plant naturally found in North America and Canada. Witch hazel extract was widely used for medicinal purposes by American Indians. It is mostly known for its strong antioxidant and astringent properties.
Witch hazel hydrosol can be used in the following ways:
- as a face toner to reduce swelling and redness caused by breakouts
- for insect bites and rashes
- to reduce puffy eyes
- to treat razor burns
- as a soothing spray for sun burned skin (not that we will get sun burned any time soon in this part of the globe!)
- to ease the itching and redness of skin affected by eczema or psoriasis
- to quicken the healing of bruises
- for reducing the appearance of varicose veins
- for cleaning wounds
Thank you, Anna! I definitely need to buy w.h in hydrosol form - I only have w.h. extract, and because of alcohol I haven't been able to use much:-(((
ReplyDeleteYou definitely should try the hydrosol Maria. I don't much like putting anything with alcohol on my face (too drying) so I prefer the hydrosol from the extract.
